Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to get extra instruction for my child since he/she hasn't taken any jump rope workshops or camps? Our jumpers and coaches will be teaching all tryout participants everything they need to know during the week of tryouts.
When does the team practice during the season? The Comet Skippers normally practice Monday, Tuesday and Thursday during the school year except for school holidays and snow days. Practices have been held at Mason Intermediate School and Mason Early Childhood Center. (Although future practice schedules could change year-to-year based on the spaces and times we are given by Mason City Schools.)
How much does it cost to be on the team? The first night of tryouts is a parent meeting where we will walk through the time and money commitments of being on the team. Or coaches and volunteers will be on hand to answer any additional questions.
What age does a child need to be to join the team? A majority of our new team members come in at the 3-5th grade levels (trying out when they are in 2nd-4th grade), but we have very successful jumpers come in in 2nd grade and up through middle school. We assess maturity and coordination during tryouts and we have many great team members that made the team on their second or third try.
My child isn't sure he/she wants to join the team but has interest. What should we do? Tryouts are a great way to meet team members and experience the sport. If your child gets to the end of the week and decides that they're not ready, they can opt out of the assessment on Saturday. Regardless of what happens, they had a week of learning, some new friends and a rope to keep.
We look forward to meeting everyone and having a fun year jumping rope. If your child is interested please call (513) 459-9297 or email
